Week 8

-Michael Burmeister

In WFA D2 Northeast Region action, we are treated to what many believe will be the matchup for the National Conference Championship, as the top-rated, undefeated Detroit Dark Angels Women’s Football (5-0, 2-0 D2) face their strongest challenge yet on the #FTWTour2019 in the form of three-time National Champions the Pittsburgh Passion (4-2, 3-0 D2) in an UNFORGETTABLE showdown which could very likely decide who gets the conference’s top seed and will get to stay home until Colorado.

All-time series: Passion lead 6-0
Points: Passion 318, Dark Angels 27
Last meeting: The Passion bested the Dark Angels 59-7 on May 5, 2018 in Pittsburgh.
Meeting of the year: Only (of the regular season, at least).

Thoughts on the Passion: You know how I often say that sometimes a team’s losses prove how good they are better than their wins do? Well, the Passion were the EPITOME of that last week, hanging in there with the D1 DC Divas until literally the VERY last play, so much so that the Divas needed the miracle they got to beat the Passion 26-21. Fired up in EVERY sense of the word-yes, they’ve got that anger over their close defeat, but with FULL confidence that they’re a team that can capture their fourth national title this July in Colorado. The anger inside them they will be putting to VERY good use as they face off against the Motor City’s team, hoping to defeat them in as dominant fashion as they’ve done in their previous six meetings.

Thoughts on the Dark Angels: The #FTWTour2019 is rolling through as strong as ever right now, as the DDA fam is on pace to capture home-field advantage throughout the National Conference playoffs. Having proved their Michigan supremacy this past Saturday in a 45-7 victory over Lansing’s D3 Capital City Savages, the Dark Angels this year are giving us the most FIRED-UP, running-on-all-cylinders team to hail from the Motor City since the Demolition back when they were winning natty after natty after natty in the NWFA and IWFL. As their tour reaches its home stretch, the Dark Angels seek to make the seventh time the charm and to pick up their BIGGEST statement victory in team history, providing the ULTIMATE fuel boost to the FTW Tour’s final mission-to make Motown women’s football’s Titletown once again. This game will be FANTASTIC!

The questions are: Will the Passion get another dominant win over their Michigan rivals and ensure that the road to Golden goes through Pittsburgh? Or will the Dark Angels get their first-ever win over the Passion, their biggest statement win in team history, and officially establish themselves as the next big dynasty, revving up the engines for the road to Colorado Mines going through Detroit?
