Bio:
Jenitra Shields was born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in Ellenwood, GA from the age of 5. She attended Morrow High School and continued to display her love and dedication to athletics and music.
Upon graduation from high school she received a track scholarship to Albany State University, which she attended for her first two years of college. While she was at Albany State, she walked on the for the volleyball team and earned two SIAC Championships. This was the start of her collegiate volleyball career, as Jenitra was later offered a full scholarship for Volleyball.
Jenitra’s father (Ronald Taft Shields Sr.) passed away suddenly in March of 2007 when she was 18 years old, just days before she earned her scholarship to Pine Bluff. She believes he is still supporting her from heaven.
She excelled in sports due to her work ethic and dedication to becoming the best player she could be. Jenitra earned many awards during her three seasons at UAPB; to name a few she was awarded the” Most Valuable Player” (MVP) two of the three seasons (2009 season has not been awarded yet), Jenitra also received numerous All-tournament team honors from different tournaments, and she was placed on the Second team All-SWAC in the 2007 season.
Jenitra graduated from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 2009 with her Bachelors’ of Science in Psychology and moved back to Ellenwood, GA after her graduation. She is currently earning her Masters’ of arts in Teaching at Georgia State University with a focus in Health and Physical Education.
Jenitra hopes to be in the WNFL one day and wants to continue her passion of advancing women’s athletics and to raise advocacy for proactive health awareness in her career. Her nickname is “J-Roc.” Favorite Quote:
