San Diego Welcomes Newest Sports Team
SAN DIEGO – Calif. The San Diego Rebellion announced the launch of their inaugural season in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) as a Division II team on Oct. 2, 2017.
Founded by women’s football veterans Knengi Martin and Katie Ott, The Rebellion bring a new level of professionalism and growth to the sport of women’s tackle football.
Using her knowledge from 16 years of women’s football, three gold medals representing USA Football, and 10 years of coaching high school football, Martin will spearhead football the team’s operations. Ott, a seven-year football veteran and a 2017 gold medalist, will leverage more than 15 years of global business experience at Hewlett Packard and ServiceNow to oversee business operations.
“The WFA is excited to work with Knengi Martin and Katie Ott,” said league Commissioner Lisa King. “Both women are two extremely talented US National team athletes who will offer their knowledge and expertise to build a solid football organization in the San Diego area. We have no doubt the Rebellion will be a competitive team in the WFA, but more importantly we believe they will be a positive force for women’s football and work well with the teams around them to grow our sport.”
At the heart of The Rebellion organization is the belief that greatness happens when you rebel against expectations and consistently work towards a shared goal. Reflecting that creed, the Rebellion is a mix of veteran players, former high school athletes, collegiate athletes, and women that defied traditional youth sports to participate in Pop Warner and high school football programs.
All interested athletes and coaches can participate in weekly offseason workouts at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays at Orange Glen High School in Escondido. All are welcome and no experience is necessary.
