August 31, 2018 (Colorado Springs, CO) — USA Weightlifting is excited to announce a new partnership with the Women’s Football Alliance to create a pathway for athletes to transition from the gridiron into the sport of weightlifting. This new partnership is one of many in USA Weightlifting’s expanding Transitional Athlete Program (TAP).

With TAP, USA Weightlifting aims to find its next Olympic talent and increase their elite athlete talent pool. Female athletes that have transitioned from football to weightlifting include: Ali Ludwig (87kg), Holley Mangold (+87kg), Kindelle Schmubach (71kg), Shayla McMillan (+87kg).

USA Weightlifting will host a combine at the 2019 Women’s Football Alliance National Championship to identify new talent and will be accepting submissions from WFA athletes into the Transitional Athlete Program.
