How you got into football: I’ve always loved playing football… we used to play backyard football all the time growing up. I heard an ad on the radio about the Cleveland Fusion and looked them up online. Went to tryouts the next fall… 14 years later and I still can’t give it up!

In Her Own Words:
Football is most definitely a passion of mine. I’ve played since 2004. Flag football and tackle football! Succeeding in life is another passion of mine. Never getting ‘complacent’ and always striving for more. Continuing to nurture the meaningful relationships that I do have and grow as a person!
I heard an ad on the radio about the Cleveland Fusion… immediately went to my computer, googled it and found an email address. I received a return email stating the roster was full (right… who remembers those days?!) and that they would be in contact in the fall when they had the next tryouts! I went and tried out, made the team and immediately went to work to earn a starting spot… and that I did. At offensive guard. I’ve been playing ever since!
I’ve now been through four owners, many teammates and yet I still can’t imagine walking away from the sport. It challenges me and pushes me in a way that I’ve never been challenged. Football has helped me become the strong, independent, confident athlete that I am today! I wouldn’t trade one minute of it. Ok… maybe the games in the snow… I might trade those! 😉
My hope for women in football… is that some day, we will get even half the recognition and respect that men do. We are full time employees, full time wives, full time mothers…. And we sacrifice so much for this sport that we love to play! I’d love to see companies like Schutt, Riddell, Nike, Adidas and Under Armour (just to name a few), help the women! Sponsor teams, donate equipment, help grow the sport by endorsing the women who play it! I hope that the NFL, their teams, and athletes would help sponsor and grow the sport for women. Coordinate clinics, donate equipment and/or facilities for practice! If we could rally together and influence those organizations to support us, the leverage it would give women’s football would be huge!
I played some fast pitch softball in Jr/Sr high and my senior year, I was cut from my softball team! I was devasted, but refused to sit around and be miserable about it, so I joined the Track team!! The coach was more then welcoming and I actaully was named Captain of the throwing team for the girls! I like to share that story, because it’s important to remember that whenever one door closes, another door opens!
I have a 12 year old son, Keon, and 13 year old daughter, Trish. My girlfriend plays for the Fusion also, Veronica Rucker. We met over a decade ago and have been together coming up on 6 years now! Trish is Rucker’s biological daughter and Keon is my biological son, together with our two kids and our two dogs we have our family! Keon plays basketball and football, loves his NBA 2k17 and Call of Duty, and always has the newest/hottest music on his phone. Trish runs track, loves fashion and is always in the know on the latest gossip…whether it be local or national. Pretty sure she knows every ‘life hack’ out there! Finding time together when we’re not running around for anyone’s given sporting event, practice or school events is rare…so we have family date nights on Mondays. The kids are still at the age where they want us around, so we definitely like to be able to take advantage of it!
I have the highest hopes, biggest dreams and best wishes for my two children to be whatever and whoever they want to be. I work hard and try to set the right example….to show them that everything is earned and nothing is given! To never, ever give up!!! The sky is the limit and I couldn’t be more proud of the young adults they are becoming.
